  5. Hey all,a little update for you on how things are going up here in the north land. After extensive flooding with the other resorts on the creek and some help from some heavy equipment we now have a suitable crossing on the lake side of the point! We began hauling houses out today and are excited to get fishing soon! If anyone has an itch to get some early ice fishing in we have a couple houses out now and plan on bringing the rest of the fleet out over the next couple of days. The ice in the first couple miles past the crossing is quite rough but there's smoother ice after about the 2 mile mark on the trail. The early reports of the fishing from the first few days is decent in the 20-23' of water range jigging with frozen shiners. Happy fishing everyone and we can't wait to see you on beautiful Lake of the Woods! 6. Looking for Metro Spots

Hey I am looking for spots in the metro area for anything that is keeper sized, Walleye, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch. I live in eden prairie so anything in that area would be nice. If you PM me, ill give you the spot that i just caught a 27" 8.5 pound walleye that i caught last weekend. I am pretty new to ice fishing in the metro area so i don't know any spots.
  7. Making venison jerky as healthier snack when I go ice fish! Don't get me wrong them mini doughnuts and Mountain Dew are good but they are not helping me stay alive.
  8. Any area ice reports? I'm hearing that most of the smaller bodies of water in the area have now frozen over. Should make it out sometime this weekend to try my luck . Good luck, and please stay safe
  9. Crappie Coffin - Ice Fishing Net

Welcome Anglers,To those who love the sport of ice fishing. We all have a story or two of the BIG ONE that got away. Now we can show the big one that didn't get away! Introducing the Crappie Coffin, the only ice fishing net on the market today. Born out of the frustration of losing that big fish at the top of the hole. I decided to go to work on a solution to this problem. The Crappie Coffin is the result of this effort. Placed in the drilled ice hole, you drop your jig down through the center of the Crappie Coffin and fish as always. The hooked fish is reeled up and enters through the one way passage at the bottom and is then trapped within the net. Also your sonar transducer will work normally placed inside the unit. No more lost fish wrapped around your transducer. Once you use the Crappie Coffin you'll never want to fish without one. http://www.tacticalfishing.net
  10. Cold front tactics

What are some of your go-to options for cold front conditions? Normaly, I am on the move. Weather it be spot to spot or hole to hole, always trying to find the next bite. But durring cold front conditions, like we had yesterday and again today I choose to take a different route. For me, siting tight durring tough conditions has usually paid off move than jumping around would. Finding a school of fish or a likley looking ambush point and parking right on top of it, then working it hard can be the key to sucess durring the cold cold days.
  11. Anybody get on the ice yet in the south metro? Haven't found more than 2 inches in my usual spots.
  12. Hey all, I'm sure everyone has heard, but we're finally getting some nice freezing weather heading in from up north (https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/56303:4:US). Early next week nightly lows will be sub 10's. So with ice season quickly approaching, I'd like to know what everyone usually does getting prepared to walk on water. As a newbie to ice fishing (only done it the last two seasons), I'm curious to see how everyone preps their gear and what other things you all do before going out on the ice. I finally got my hands on a nice flasher and power auger to add to the rest of my gear, any suggestions for nifty equipment to help make things easier? This is open for any discussion on any ice fishing tips for newer fishers! Please feel free to ask questions or discuss your prep process for the season. Let's all hope for this forecast to follow through and get some good ice out there. -JK
  13. Well, it's Friday, March 18th. It looked like the warm weather this past week was going to put an end to my favorite time of the year to ice fish, but it hasn't ended. Last night temperatures dipped into the mid 20's and tonight we'll be be seeing temps around 20. I bet tomorrow morning a guy will have to use an auger to reopen holes. Yep, I'm crazy...crazy about fishing. Get your waders on, fill a 5 gallon bucket with everything you need, and get out for the last weekend. When you wade out to the ice and crawl on, I bet you tell yourself, I should've been doing this in the past. It's awesome to be alive! Tight lines!
  14. youtu.be/z2lKIcxwT6g If you did not get fishing over the weekend, you missed about a perfect day for it. Check this out and enjoy!
  15. I'm new to this forum and new to Lake Vermilion. We just purchased a cabin on the west end of the lake and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can as fast as I can about the lake. I have snowmobiles and a portable shack so I can fish almost anywhere there is good ice. I also have a 16' wheel house that we have used extensively on Lake of the Woods. Does anyone on the west end of Vermilion plow ice roads to allow access with my wheel house? Thanks for any info you can provide! Chad
  16. I was wondering how the roads are and how far they go out. looking to go out 5 nm SE of myr mar

  18. Here us the very latest as we get to the weekend. Thanks Denny Kjos Adrian’s: Open; allowing ½ ton’s with 21’ wheel house & ¾ ton but no house in tow. They are marked 5 – 6 miles north of the island with a better fishing report. Cyrus Resort: Open; ½ ton’s w/o a house in tow, Geo Tracker/jeep Wrangler type vehicles, sleds & ATV’s. Marked out about 8 miles from the island in about 33’ of water has been providing a good sauger/walleye mix. Morris Point: Open; ½ ton pickups & 16’ wheel houses, & ¾ tons empty. Road is in perfect shape; no cracks or heaves. Moved some houses back in the 28-29’ range & doing well. Where they are marked the ice is 14-18” thick. Zippel Bay: Open; allowing ½ ton’s with up to 20’ wheel houses & larger trucks empty. The igloo is open!! Dales Fish House Rentals & Winter Access (formerly Babbler’s Road): Open; sleds & ATV’s only for now. They may open to trucks later & you can check that status at; dalesfishinglakeofthewoods.com, or call the number above. Springsteel: Open; ½ ton’s & 16’ houses. Marked to the DNR reef. Fishing has been spotty at times.
  19. As the weather warmed up, so did the ice fishing. Ice roads are allowing half-ton trucks onto the lake when not towing a trailer. Ice averages 14-17”. As always, stay on marked resort trails and talk with your resort about ice conditions in their area. Fishing in 24-34’ seems to be the best. Glow colors remain hot and the two way punch of jigging and dead stick remains the go to plan of attack. Ice electronics are key in catching more fish. Walleyes and saugers caught primarily in late morning with flurries in afternoon. Lots of nice saugers in the mix throughout the basin. The Rainy River is iced over and being fished in spots but mainly by locals who know the ice. For safety, work through resorts. Safety first. Most anglers fishing the lake. Up at the NW Angle, fishing is hot. Ice is 22” where resorts are traveling on Minnesota side and 14” on the Ontario side. Limits in 24-28' adjacent or on reefs for walleyes and 30-34' for saugers in the mud. Jumbo perch, pike, and eelpout in the mix. Large crappies (in 30-33') and lake trout (via snowmobile and guide) being caught on Ontario side.
  20. Hey everyone Rookie fisherman here looking to add a tool to my kit. Got all geared up this year with help from family and only thing I'm missing for some serious fishing is a flasher. I've used vexilar in the past and love them, but if anyone has an old flasher they are willing to give to a rookie for a good price please let me know. I've checked craigslist and will keep searching for one, but figured I'd let a line out here too
  21. New people at Bablers this winter and they seem to have gotten off to a good start with house rentals and roads. Good for all of us. I found out this weekend that Fords Sleepers changed hand too. Rod Thompson bought the whole deal just after Christmas. I talked to Rod about it yesterday when he had a minute to talk. https://soundcloud.com/ncor/rod-thompson-int
  22. I think everyone knows what's wrong with this. Since it's snowing in Roseau I figured I'd check Sportsman's Dock Cam. Low and behold a guy kept his ice fishing weekend on track but brought the boat. Depressing and rare at the same time.
  23. Have you ever wondered why crappies and sunfish, during early season ice fishing aren't in the same locations as they were the previous year. Maybe you had an experience where you were on an awesome bite one day and the next everything was gone. What happened? Here are some clues and a number of facts that may help you and if you want to factor them into your ice fishing equation maybe these pieces of the puzzle make your ice fishing season more enjoyable. 7 Ice Fishing Facts To Help You Catch Early Season Panfish What do YOU think?
  24. Snaps from the Sportsman's Rainy River dock cam. Getting closer. Water looks high in comparison to the docks. Another reason it will take a bit longer to ice up this season.
  25. I can't take it

I know it is still early kind of but it is driving crazy not being able to get out on the ice. I need to get my fix of pulling some Gills and Crappies through the ice. I have all my gear ready, so I do not know what to do now. Working on my last college paper and Final Project is not working, because I keep thinking about ice fishing. My wife said she is about ready to take me in to the hospital soon. Like that would do any good!! They can not make more ice, so I can go ice fishing. The only other thing I can think of doing this weekend is to go to Ice Fishing Show, but I think that will make it worse. I know some of the rest of you are in the same place as I am. The only thing that will make it better is more ICE!!
