  2. I always did best with frozen Cisco's suspended on a quick strike rig.
  3. Calling season '16/17

I tried a few times during that 30 below weather. Saw nothing but thousands of wolf tracks. That night while we sat on the hunting shack deck having a cigar a pack of coyotes we're yipping out by our trucks 400 yds away. They were probably tipped off by our generator though and couldn't get them to come in. I did see 2 moose 30yds in front of me going into one calling spot. That was cool.
  4. Fishing with 5yr old

Coon lake up 65 and off 22. Also Lake George. Both pretty good panfish populations to keep busy.
  5. Today
  6. Thanks for the replies guys. Usually target panfish and eyes so actually going for pike is kinda a whole new world to me. lol
  7. Little Swan Lake

Lots of little sunnies there is a spring in there in the deepest spot be care full. There are better lakes in my opinion.
  8. They work. And as stated, sometimes better then live suckers! Cliff
  9. Spearfishing - Where are you now?

I can’t say Big Marine is a big fish factory but it should have nice clarity. The main lakes of Minnetonka are pretty cool to play on. Yeah, Minnetonka is a muskie lake but there are a lot of nice pike swimming out there.
  10. I’ve had the same issue with keeping them alive. Dead bait works way way better than live bait anyway. Defiently going to give that a try wanderer!
  11. I’ve saved dead/dying suckers before. Pull them as soon as you can and freeze em. I’ve sprinkled them with salt before bagging and freezing. Fish them on the bottom. There was a time I targeted big pike with big minnows and would actually kill a minnow before sinking it to the bottom with one of my lines. As with everything, it’ll work better some places at some times, not as much as a live minnow other times. Later season when pike cruise just below the ice scooping up the dead loss of the winter, suspending your dead sucker a foot below the ice can be your big fish ticket.
  12. Spearfishing - Where are you now?

    welcome to the site!!!
  13. January Thaw

Love watching the NFL, WWF/WWE not so much! How bout them Vikes! I hope thing go well thia weekend.
  14. Cold and windy

Eyeguy, I am jealous. That is still more fishin' than i have done thia winter. At least we know of a hotspot to try!
  15. Yesterday
  16. Cold and windy

If you really want to challenge yourself, make the "hook" mostly barbless, which is what one of my kids somehow managed to do. Just aim for the toothiest area.....
  17. They are taking trucks in both
  18. Spearfishing - Where are you now?

What lake? I'm in Moundsview so I like hearing about visibility nearby. Struggling to find clear water this year. Poor visibility on Forest, Clear, Centerville so far. WBL has good visibility. But I hate spearing on muskie lakes. Plus, WBL doesn't have big pike per surveys.
  19. Fly Tying Group?

The only tying groups I know are here in the Twin Cities, and there are quite a few that gather during the winter months. I'm not sure of any in the SW near you.
  20. Cold and windy

Thank you, for the welcome, Eyeguy!
  21. The Sheriff issued the permit yesterday - it’s on for next weekend as scheduled! 18 inches of good, consistent, clear ice over a 2 mile swath of Gull/Hole in the Day Bay. We’ll be out for our 3rd year, our 2nd staying on the lake. Looking to make the Leader Board this year! Haha! I’m planning on doing a little scouting this weekend for our overnight spot. I’ll report on ice conditions at least. Can’t say too much about the fish! Anyone else?
  22. Panfish Pics

  23. 15-23 inches in most areas Don’t drive through the narrows on blue headed towards little blue you will sink your truck.
  24. So I don't usually fish for pike often with tip ups and I'm just wondering if dead suckers work well? All of mine died literally after 1 day and it seems a shame just to toss them away, especially when they cost $6.50/dozen
  25. Sunset Lodge

    Larry with a nice 22"!

  26. Try cross-country skiing, fat biking and more Winter may have gotten off to an especially cold start in 2018, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy what’s left of it. For an introduction to snow sports, stop by the annual Winter Trails Day extravaganza at Fort Snelling State Park on Saturday, Jan. 20, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Adults and kids can try cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, fat biking, ice fishing, quinzee (snow shelter) building and archery. Other activities will include ice harvesting, storytelling and an ice globe demonstration. Guided nature hikes will also take place every half hour, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Between activities, visitors can enjoy hot cocoa around a crackling bonfire. Activities will be set up near the beach area. “Winter Trails Day is about helping people warm up to winter,” said Kelli Bruns, park manager at Fort Snelling State Park. “The cold weather months are more fun when you find an activity you can enjoy alone or with others.” This year, for the first time, sign-language interpreters will be on hand to help make the day’s activities more accessible to those with hearing disabilities. Stop by the registration tent for more information. Winter Trails Day is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the National Park Service, retail co-op REI, the U.S. Forest Service and Mississippi Park Connection. Use of skis, snowshoes, fat bikes and other equipment will be free, but a vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas ($7 for a one-day permit or $35 for a year-round permit). Save time, get vehicle permit in advance Although permits are available at the park, people attending Winter Trails Day can avoid waiting in line by getting their permit in advance. Visit www.mndnr.gov/reservations, log in (or create an account), click on “entry permit,” select a duration of “one-day” ($7) or “year-round” ($35), and continue as directed. You’ll receive an email with a permit that can be printed and displayed in your vehicle during your visit. For more information, call the park at 612-725-2724 or visit the Fort Snelling State Park Web page at www.mndnr.gov. Discuss below - to view set the hook here.
