First off let me welcome you to HSO allways nice to get more members on the site. The bite on these 2 pools has slowed in the last few weeks but im not saying you cant get them with a lot of moving around wingdams with live bait should get you some fish if i was you i would try the deeper up side of them also you may be able to find a few trolling or casting riprap along the shore. You may also find them if you see a school of shad busting the top of the water along with a number of other kinds of fish.I havent been out last time i was out was on the zumbro river and had some fun with the smallies and i did find a couple eye's and lost a pretty big muskie. If you can put it off till the later part of sept. or even into the beginning oct. the bite should be hot and and the eye's feeding heavy either way good luck to you and post if you do get out lets us know how it go's .

There are plenty of area's that have panfish just look for some of the shallow wingdam's up around lock and dam 5a or around the fishing float up that way to.Slip bobbers and a piece of worm floted down to the wingdam allways work for me or a small split shot on the bottom with worm. You may also try some of the tree's laying in the water you may find some crops. around these.Lot of area to try best of luck to you and post when you get back home lets us know how you did.Hope this helps you out.

I was out last wed. night and a buddy of mine caught two walley's over 23 inches casting for bass above a wingdam. one was on a spinnerbait and one on some kind of plastic i think. Same thing as chaser said though the minnows were bust all over the place where he was fishing. Good luck and enjoy the mighty miss. oh yeah it gets a little busy with boat traffic in the afternoon so you might want to try the backwaters then.

walleyechaser: were you towards the headwaters on the Zumbro? I was down there earlier in the year - but much farther downstream; current was raging, so we did not do much. Is closer to Zumbro Lake better for smallies?

Anybody been bass fishing around Kellogg? Topwater in the backwaters - but still find major current areas?

Outdoorsman,
I would concentrate on using WillowCats. Are you coming down for the flw walleye tournament? I have been getting a few fish on Leeches, but Willow Cats are catching the bigger fish. If I were you I would concentrate on the upper wingdams on Pool 6. Pool 5a also has some very nice wingdams, but you will need to do a lot of jumping around to find the good ones. Dont be afraid to throw some crankbaits, some days the crankbait bite is awesome, other days you cant get a bite.
Good Luck.

welcome to the site, i just got back from Appleton WI where I am originally from and fished most of the water previously mentioned with mixed results. Where in Winona will you be camping? I usually put in on Prairie Island and head up into the backwaters. If you are bringing a boat I can tell you some good spots for bass and a few panfish areas. Im usually out on the water in the evenings and afternoons/evenings during the weekend. Ill be in a black basstracker 175txw ( truck is a Trailblazer SS) if you see me feel free to say hi.

Hey guys, What a beautifiul area the mississippi river valley it was first time fishing it and getting familiar with the area and yes i am fishing the league championship in 2 weeks. So with that being said on the 28 aug or after will not be able to post response or communicate to anyone so if i dont get back to you this is why (tourny's rules) My wife and kids loved the area and we caught some fish and we had fun camping at prairie park campground! The walleyes were slow biting and we only caught 4 in 2 days biggest being 17" but the large mouth bass were hungry on saturday and my 13y.o son and i caught about 10 bass and one snake. Fun weekand and yes i will be back! Thanks for the response!(huntfishtv, walleyechaser, sstracker) p.s sstracker i didnt see your post until today
