I hear through the grapevine that walleye fishing on Clearwater was magnificent last fall when everyone else was out bowhunting or chasing roosters. I might trade some time in camo or blaze orange for a little floating on the water for eyes. My questions are: 1.) is this a night-only bite or do they bite during the middle of the day as well? 2.) what type of water and presentation are we talking about? That lake still kills me with all the structure it has. Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to share some information. And please note that GPS coordinates will do no good for me as I don't own a GPS . . . . YET!

The little I have fished for eyes after dark I haven't had the best luck. But I never got in to trolling raps out there thou. Just too hard to follow the weed edges. Even in winter my best luck for eyes and crappies has been first and last light. I also bow hunt, but mainly do weekends(and not every one)up north. If you want to hook up I know a few spots. Weekday eves works for me too w/ a day or two notice. But early am is best I think...that means Sat/Sun for me. You really don't have to wait til fall either...I hammered em 2 weeks ago on a Sunday morning early.
BTW I was the guy with the tan Crestliner at the July GTG out there.

Steve, I was in Trav's boat on the July GTG event. I'd also love to join you sometime looking for eyes if you're interested in showing a rook around. smile My schedule is pretty open, I work during weekdays but flexible enough where I could find a morning.

P.S. We were on Clearwater a couple hours last night, didn't fair as well as the get-together though we had 4 kids 4 yrs. and under in the boat so not like we were fishing full-time.

Sure it was still a good time anyway. I'll be out there Sat am at the crack of dawn "guiding" a guy I work with who just built a home a mile east of the lake. Figured I'd show him some of my secondary hot spots. My top-shelf spots cost some money smile

Maybe the weekend after L Day? Weekdays it would have to be eves. The weekend after that I'm sure I'll be 20' up lookin down! And what do you mean by "rook"? Ya right.

I've bow hunted some in the refuge west of Princeton, but most of my bow hunting is done up in the Frazee area.(Detroit Lakes) 150 miles up there so may be a little less time this year. Also have an 11 month old boy that keeps me closer to home too. Hopin to bag the big boy on opener this year so I can get some fishing in this fall.

Maybe you'll see me out there...I fish out of a 14' camo-tan Crestliner. Primarily fish the east end, but I do get around.

JJ...do you hit the east or west side typically? If you don't want to say I can understand. Josh and I will be out there Sunday am. Looking for some decent chubs...3-4" river-type. Any suggestions?
