"I would not need to keep anymore for the rest of the year." So how many are in YOUR freezer?

Like I said, this is what he said to me. It was a very pleasant conversation, in fact he kept the conversation going after I stopped. No CO said they were from Red Lake, just the guy doing the netting. He said he had a hour and half drive back up.
Now hear say from some of the local residents of the lake are saying it has been going on all summer on the east and sw shore.

maybe he was from Red Lake but part of the Leech Lake Tribe.....who knows but I agree that it is [PoorWordUsage] that they can net all they want and we have regs to abide by..........live in the present and not the past..........

It's been going on for years man, there is still some seriously good angling out there too. But everyone has the right to whine and rant. So have at it. I'm out of this thread because it's 1,000,000 against like 12.

Netting on Red and netting on Winnie are two different monsters aren’t they?
A co-worker was recently vacationing up on Leech and ran into a guy coming into the launch with three large Rubbermaid tubs overflowing with eyes. The guy openly talked about going out there often and filling his tubs.
But again, this is about Red, not any other lakes. Because of the heated history up there I would think fabricating a netting story is an outright disrespect to the whole community.

I guess it was just my imagination, that there was a guy unloading his equipment at that landing on 2 different nites that I saw. If he was out to stir trouble, I would not know why as I and he was very pleasant. It does make sense if they can't net on Red, why not go to another lake.
I don't drink in the boat, so I wasn't intoxicated.

Nobody in particular, just a blanket comment.

Gee 1 hour and 10 minutes and no responses. This feels like I am talking to the DNR again.
G.C. Comments like these make it sound like your only intention is stirring the pot. I have no opinion on the netting situation, it's one thing that we can't change. I don't waste my energy getting worked up about it, like said, we still have some dang good fishing. I doubt if these few netters are taking out as many fish as left Winnie or Red on opening weekend....

Sorry not trying to stir the pot at all. It is just hard to swallow sometimes, when you hear and see it happening.
By the way I have 4 walleyes in my freezer and 15 perch.
Please forgive me if I come across that way.

Why would some one from red lake come down to winni to break the law and nett? Why not just stay on they're own reservation save the gas money, legal cost and risk of getting they're boat and equitment took by the state DNR? If they was going to nett and break the law why not just do it on red? They were probly leech lakers, They got a right to nett on lakes within they're resevations boundries. They won a court case much like the Mille lacs band did that where as they reservered there hunting and fishing rights. Only thing is the state pays them to exercise " restraint" in there harvesting. So it could be a lot worse they have the right.

Pretty sorry are those who whine about rumored violations but feel no obligation to report the same, or even the real deal. Stuff-stirring at it's finest.
