Just wondering if anyone has had any success fishing cats in front of the sartell dam? I'm fairly new to catfishing but am completely hooked. I really only have one spot north of the Sartell dam that I am fishing right now and it's been really slow there this year. Any good spots are welcome.

P.S. I don't have a boat so only shore fishing spots please.

Welcome to the forums!

I don't fish near the Sartell dam but do get out on the Sauk River some.

Jason there are also some good cat spots on the Sauk that can be reached from shore. I caught a pile when fihsing for bullies to use as flathead bait a couple of weeks ago. You can fine them below the dam in Cold Spring as well as the two parks there and near every bridge crossing as well.

Good Luck!

Thanks Borch. I'll be sure to give those spots a try. I've never caught a flat head before. Will I find any of those at those spots? I've only caught channels with my biggest being a little over 9 lbs, but I would love to find some of those real big flat heads.

You'll be dissapointed to hear that there are no flatheads up that way.

No the bait were for a trip down to the Minnesota. You will find flats in the St Croix, Mississippi SE of the Twin Cities and the Minnesota fron about Granite Falls till it dumps into the Mississippi.

So if you looking for the flats you're about an hour drive away from fantastic fishing.

Just channels in these parts. wink

There are some dandy channel cats below the Sartell Dam, but they're tough to reach without a boat. My dad gets some in the early spring--I'm guessing they're following the suckers and eating the roe.

I never really got into catting until I moved away from Sartell, so I can't say that I have put a lot of effort in, but I would think you could catch some from shore. I can't remember how close you can get to the dam on shore, but look for deeper water and current seams.

I've fished below the Sartell Dam just once and it was in the kayak. Had an 11 lb cat pulling me around though, sure was fun.

Hey Jeff, sorry this has no relation to the topic but couldn't find your e-mail.
How are those turkey contest prizes doing????

We used to fish below the sartell dam when the water was low. Throw on some sandals and wade out to the channel and throw some chicken liver a couple feet under a float, many many channels that way.

A trip up to blanchard dam is worth the time to get some cats. although you'll have to fight some people for a spot sometimes
