First time using the landing since it officially opened. Very nice smile

Set lines at 7:00 a.m. and trolled to the lester and back until 2 p.m. Ended up 4 for 4 with 3 lakers and a king. Very slow bite, last two lakers came when we were slowly pulling the lines. All lakers came off flasher/fly depths from 72 to 92 down. King came off a watermelon spoon 52 down on a stacked rigger around noon in 150 f.o.w. Hopefully I will have pics later

Good report, man.

Does the fact that two of your four fish came when you were pulling in lines (assuming you were still trolling at the time) mean you might have needed to increase your trolling speed?

Today was the first day with the depth raider and we ran speeds from 1.4 to 1.9. We were going about 1.6 when the last two hit. Its amazing how the ball speed varies from GPS/locater speed. There were only 4 rods left in the water on the starboard side when the action started. I was pulling one rod every 5 minutes waiting for the last fish.

The pics didn't turn out well. Not my camera this trip.

Best pic out of the bunch.

The gentleman standing next to me is 76 years old and it was his first trip on Superior. He had a great time and cant wait to go out again in September

I am a proud new owner of the Depth Raider (we call it the "Death Raider") as well 2tp. I always get a slower reading on the ball and wonder if the callibration is different than GPS. Is yours the same?

I also can't get readings deeper than about 75 feet. I asked Russ and he tells me that I should get readings much deeper than that. I need to call him this week as he is checking with his contact to see what the problems could be.

How is yours reading?

How many salmon did you get? Near the surface? We were heading out today (Monday) until the wind forcast changed to NE at 10-20.....

Looks like we will get out Friday.

Dumb questions, but are you using a coated line on the rigger? If not, when you go deep, you'll lose your signal. If you are using a coated cable, is it attached properly, or has it been damaged?

You certainly should be seeing speed much deeper than what you've been encountering.

Also, did you calibrate the unit with it a foot down in the water before you sent it down? If you're having depth problems to begin with, I wonder if you are having problems with a messed up signal through all depths.

Just my $.02 - good luck with it.

Photo-

Only 1 salmon 52 feet down on the stacked rigger with a watermelon spoon.

With the death raider I lose signal after 90 feet. I used the coated rigger wire and followed the directions exactly. Not sure what is going with it. I will let you know if I find anything out.

I will be out on Thursday with some retired guys from work and Friday with the guys I work with.

Guys

I did have to modify the from line to unit as I messed up a crimp. Maybe I should start there. I did not read the direction as to the callibration. I was to anxious to get the lines in the water. I hope I still have them.

2tp I will be out Friday. Give me shout when you get out. We will be out at around 7 am. Out of the superior entry.

Went 6 for 10 today. Way better bite compared to the last couple weeks, just had some trouble getting fish to the boat. 5 of the six lakers were well over 5lbs each. Trolled off the pump house in about 110-130 fow. Color didn't matter today every dodger/fly got hit at least once. Riggers were set between 70 and 95 feet and all got hit. Looks to windy for tomorrow or I would be trying my luck again.

Nice boat--I see it every morning (when you're not fishing) when I drop my son off at daycare.

Do you know anything about that Slickcraft that was (is?) for sale in front of the Knotty Pine? I never really stopped to look at it as I was always running late it seems.

Wow, what a small world to figure out where I live by the forums. ( Or maybe the 22 footer sitting next to the house gave it away)

It took 2 months but I am pretty sure the slickcraft did sell. (there is a different boat there now) The slickcraft was a 1978 20 footer???? in real nice shape. I was watching it on craiglist and the guy kept dropping the price as the sumer went on. I think it ended up going for around $3000. The slickcraft would have been a nice Superior boat.

10-4 on that being a nice boat. We had a 1972 235 Slickcraft for lots of years and we loved the boat. Ours was built before Leon Slicker started to sell off his mold and befor AMC bougth him out. Once AMC bought him out, the quality of the boats deminished greatly. The other thing that I did notice on that boat was that it was an open bow. I have not since too many Slickcrafts with an open bow.

If you come into Eveleth anytime, my (new acquired boat) is sitting on the corner of Monroe and Lincoln (alley that heads to MP). It is a 231 Mako that I inherited from my Dad's estate. I'm doing some trailer work on it right now but I'm hoping to have it in the water maybe by this weekend.

What kind of VHF radio are you running? My step-mom wouldn't let me into the house to grab his old one so I need to by a new one. I would like one that is capable of both 25W and 1W transmission.
