Cold fronts this past week and a lack of moving water have resulted in a slower start to open water fishing this year. A warmer forecast should help things pick up as water temps increase. The one plus this past week was a new lake record walleye caught by Travis Mettler of Concrete ND. The walleye weighed a whopping 13lbs 3 ounces. Congratulations Travis.
As for fishing, a few people have been going out in boats and are reporting some fish activity with pike, but slow walleye action. Shore fisherman are reporting similar activity. Some of the better spots for pike and some walleye action have been the coulees.
This includes Channel A and the Mauvee. In these areas anglers are pitching cranks such as shad raps and countdowns; jigs tipped with twister tails and/or minnows; slip bobbers tipped with minnows or leeches; or are using smelt or herring and letting it lay on the bottom. This time of year the possibility of snagging is higher than normal and anglers need to keep in mind that they're not allowed to keep any fish that's caught behind the gill plate.
Purposely snagging is illegal. Ed's is also having it's summertime big walleye and pike contests with gift certificates for the largest caught each month. Good Luck & Good Fishing from us at Eds Bait Shop!!!
